Looking Back...

January 2021,

Late last year I started toying around with the idea of doing a monthly blog post here on the website. My intentions with this post were to talk about what I’m currently working on in the shop, what I’ve got coming up, and anything else that happens to come to mind while I’m in the woodshop. Occasionally these might not even be related to woodworking.

Now that we have entered the new year and that 2020 is over. I am sure that lots of people are talking about how they are glad it’s over. I feel like there are a lot of clichés that have formed, rather quickly, when taking about it. So, I’m not even going to talk about the bad that happened to me and business last year and I am just going to focus on the good. After all, positive energy breeds positive energy and I think we could all use some of that right now.

Obviously the first thing to talk about is that I started this business last year. Just the fact that you are reading this right now is crazy to me, because I don’t think a younger version of myself could have envisioned running a business. Let alone starting one in the most unusual year of my life. Most who know me personally know that I was fortunate enough to play college basketball for two years before suffering a career ending injury to my back. Not a lot of them know that right after that injury I was approached by someone to make a project for them. This was the beginning of this journey that I am now on. I didn’t have it all figured out when or even after I did that first project, but I did have this sense that this is something that I want to pursue. That was almost 2 years ago now and a lot has changed since then. I have also learned a lot more about myself and the stresses that come along with running a business. These things that I have learned are topics that I will go into depth on in future posts.

Another crazy thing that happened last year was getting the opportunity to become a “C-team” coach at a local high school. I had some dreams of becoming a coach one day but hadn’t really put any serious though into doing it right away. Sometimes you are given opportunities that you aren’t expecting or planning for and you are faced with the decision of what to do. This is life though; we never know what life is going to hand us and the idea of planning out everything we want to happen is something that I think most of us do. Back to basketball though, I ended up taking the job and I really enjoy it! The position I received is great for me at this moment as well. I’ve often thought that I would be good at teaching the game of basketball, but I’ve also often thought that I would be better at just helping them become young adults. This is ultimately what I have been trying to do with this opportunity.

If I am going to conclude this in any way, I think it would be by saying thank you. Thank you to everyone who has supported me in this business endeavor. Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout my life, and thank you for reading this post!
